Kyleigh Sigears Hired as Esports Head Coach

Cottey College is proud to announce the hiring of Kyleigh Sigears as the full‑time Head Coach of the Comets Esports program, effective immediately. Sigears steps into the role after an exceptional collegiate career marked by leadership, competitive excellence, and a deep commitment to the growth of women in esports.

Sigears first joined the Comets in August 2023 as a sophomore transfer student. With prior experience in both Overwatch, she quickly emerged as a natural leader within the program. Her impact was immediate — both in competition and in the culture she helped shape.

Beyond her in‑game contributions, Sigears became an active presence across campus. She joined the Association of Student Athletes and Leadership Launch, demonstrating early on her passion for elevating the esports program and serving as a voice for student‑athletes. Her leadership earned her the role of team captain and in‑game leader for the Comets' Overwatch roster, where she guided the team through multiple competitive seasons.

Throughout her playing career, Sigears collected an impressive list of honors. She earned academic recognition in both her sophomore and junior years by maintaining a cumulative GPA above 3.5. As a junior, she was named the program's Most Valuable Player and received the Comet Leadership Award for athletics. In her senior year,  she was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national college athlete honor society.

In her final semester, while completing her student‑teaching placement, Sigears stepped into a dual role — continuing to compete in both Valorant and Overwatch while also serving as the interim esports coach. Under her leadership, both teams qualified for postseason play, showcasing her ability to guide, motivate, and elevate student‑athletes even while balancing academic and professional responsibilities.

Following her graduation in May 2026 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Education, Sigears officially accepted the full‑time coaching position. She now becomes one of the few women leading a collegiate esports program in the nation — and one of even fewer guiding an all‑women's collegiate esports team.

Sigears enters the role with a clear vision: to continue building a competitive, empowering, and academically strong program that reflects the values of Cottey College. Her experience as a student‑athlete, her leadership background, and her passion for women's representation in esports make her uniquely equipped to lead the Comets into their next chapter.

Cottey College is thrilled to welcome Coach Kyleigh Sigears into her new role and looks forward to the continued growth and success of the esports program under her direction.
