Comets Win Late Game Thriller

Nevada, MO. - New Head Flag Football Coach Alicia Freeman will not soon forget her first colligate win. The Cottey College Flag Program started their season out with a late game thriller against Fort Scott Community College.  The game would see 5 lead changes and come down to a last minute play to secure the victory for the Comets. 

 

The Comets would start the game out with an opening drive touchdown from Amya Corulla to Angie Cruz. It would be the only score of the first quarter. The Fort Scott Greyhounds would respond quickly in the second quarter, tying the game at 6 from a 26 yard touchdown pass from Jellisa Facyson to Delexis McCall. The Greyhounds would get a turnover and capitalized again on a 15 yard pass from Jellisa Facyson to Shamaya Williams. This would push the Fort Scott lead to 13-6 at the half. 

 

After a turnover on downs, the Comets would tie the game at 13 with a 19 yard pass from Amya Corulla to Shamese Lee and a 1 point conversion reception by Angie Cruz. After a turnover the Comets would score once again to break the tie. Amya Corulla would finish off a succesful drive with a 4 yard touchdown to give the Comets a 19-13 lead. The Greyhounds would use their defense to get back into the game, with an interception by Jellisa Facyson being turned into a pick 6. The 1 point conversion would give Fort Scott a 1 point lead heading into the 4th quarter. 

 

After trading punts, the Comets would find themselves at 3rd and goal from the 5 yard line with 42 seconds left the game.  Amya Corulla Would roll to her left and find Joliette Johnson in the left corner of the end zone. A 2 point conversion by Corulla to Daniella Goodridge would push the lead to 7. The defense would hold on for the last 32 seconds of the game to secure an opening day victory. 

 

The Comets will be back home March 11th at 1:00 PM to take on their first Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Bethel.
