Comets Drop Home Contest to Baker

Comets Drop Home Contest to Baker

In the 2nd Home game of the season, the Cottey Comets were bested by the Baker Wildcats 52-26.

Baker would come out hot in the first half, scoring 6 touchdowns as the Comets struggled to get rolling. The 2nd half was a much better contest, with the Comets outscoring Baker 26-13 over the final two quarters. The Baker lead from the first half was too much to overcome though, and the Comets fall in their homestand.

Junior Alyssa Hollis saw her first real action at Quarterback this season, putting up a respectable 20-34 passing display. She had 155 yards and 3 Touchdowns in the air to go along with 43 yards rushing and another TD on the ground. Hollis has been a utility player in the Cottey program, playing almost every position since arriving on campus. Sophomore Shamese Lee was the leading receiver on the day, putting up 6 catches for 55 yards and a touchdown. She also had a 2XP reception to bolster the Comets. Tahmya Squire and Kenzie Murdoch had 5 catches apiece to aid in the offensive effort. Joliette Johnson and Amya Corulla had the other Receiving Touchdowns for the Comets.

On defense, Squire was the top performer, coming away with 2 Interceptions, 6 Tackles, and 2 Passes Broken Up. Shanell Norris logged the first Sack of the season for the Comets, while also having 5 Tackles. Alina Jeanbaptiste also had 5 Tackles as a rusher and linebacker.

The Comets record falls to 1-2 Overall, and 1-2 in KCAC action. They return to action Wednesday in an away contest at Ottawa University, starting at 5pm. Ottawa are the 3-time defending National Champions. Fans can stream the action at https://kcacnetwork.com/ottawaks/
