Comets Softball Shines in Florida with 5-1 Week

Comets Softball Shines in Florida with 5-1 Week
It was another full week of competition for the Comets across multiple sports, highlighted by strong efforts and continued growth throughout the spring season.

Flag Football
Cottey faced two tough opponents this week. On the road, the Comets fell to Ottawa, 60–6, with a highlight touchdown connection from Raniya Griffin to Xitlali Botts against one of the top teams in the conference.

Back home, the Comets battled Saint Mary in a tight contest but came up just short, 18–14. Cottey held a second-half lead before a late fourth-quarter touchdown by Saint Mary shifted the outcome.

Softball
The Comets had an impressive showing at the Space Coast Spring Games in Melbourne, Florida, finishing the week with a 5–1 record against strong competition.

Cottey opened the trip with a 3–2 win over Northwestern Ohio, setting the tone with a tight, well-executed performance. The momentum carried into Tuesday, where the Comets battled to an 8-inning, 7–5 victory over Indiana South Bend, showcasing resilience and clutch hitting in extra innings. Later that day, Cottey dropped a narrow 2–1 rematch against Northwestern Ohio in another closely contested game.

The Comets responded in a big way on Thursday, earning a dominant 9–1 win over Dallas Christian, powered by a strong offensive output. They closed out the week with their most dramatic performance, defeating New College of Florida 8–7 in a back-and-forth game that highlighted their ability to execute under pressure.

Track & Field
The Comets opened their outdoor season at the CMU Open with a small squad, focusing on early-season marks and continued development. The meet provided a strong starting point as athletes transition from indoor competition and begin building toward peak performances later this spring.
