Cottey Grabs Huge Road Win at UHSP

Cottey Grabs Huge Road Win at UHSP

In a game with huge seeding implications for the American Midwest Conference, the Cottey Comets were able to come away with a victory 72-64 over the UHSP Eutectics. UHSP took the previous contest in Hinkhouse Gym, so a bit of redemption was on the line for Cottey in this one.

This contest also looked quite a bit different, as the nation's leading scorer Grace Beyer did as she has most of the year, putting up 40 points. The Comets limited Beyer in the previous meeting to under 20 points, but ended up losing that contest. This time, the Comets had a different approach, and it paid off. The Comets had 4 scorers in double figures, with Sara Montesdeoca coming off the bench to lead Cottey with 19 points. Sarah Hunt had 15, Autumn Wallace 13, and Claudia Hadlock 12 to round out the double figure scoring. Autumn Wallace completed her double-double by grabbing 10 rebounds as well.

The Comets took a 17-14 lead in the first quarter, but outscored the Eutetics by 10 in the 2nd to take a double digit lead into halftime. The 3rd quarter was a back and forth affair, with the Comets holding off a 4th quarter charge to grab the road win.

The win lifted the Comets to 17-10 overall, 9-8 in Conference action. Nine wins is the most successful conference season to date for the Comets. Cottey currently sits in a three-way tie for 4th place in the conference, with each school having one game remaining on Saturday.

The Comets will take on Columbia College on Saturday, while also celebrating Senior Day. Olivia Pruitt and Lauren Jones are the two Comet seniors who will be graduating this year. The game is set to tip at 6pm.
