After falling behind 20–7 in the first quarter, the Cottey Comets battled back to play Central Christian even the rest of the way — a 47–47 over the final three quarters.
Sophomore Gabrielle Burrus delivered a career-high 26 points, while Ellaina LaNear added 12, also marking a career night. Their efforts kept the Comets within striking distance after a slow start. Andrea Aragon led the team on the glass with 7 rebounds, helping Cottey stay competitive on the boards.
Despite the fight, early mistakes proved costly. The Comets went 10-for-21 at the free-throw line, surrendered 17 offensive rebounds, and committed 20 turnovers — numbers that head coach Eatman says need immediate attention.
"Those three areas we've got to fix — and I mean in a hurry," Eatman said. "But I'm proud of their fight. They didn't quit."
Cottey showed several bright spots on the stat sheet. Both teams finished with 26 points in the paint, and the Comet bench outscored Central Christian's 21–11, a sign of the team's growing depth and energy off the bench.
Central Christian was led by Chloe Clevenger, who scored 23 points to pace the Eagles.
"We played with grit and effort. Now that's growth for a young team. The Comets didn't fade; they fought back," said Eatman.
Final Score: Central Christian 67, Cottey 54
