Cottey Golf Shows Growth at Bent Tree Intercollegiate

The Cottey College golf team continued its spring campaign this week at the Bent Tree Intercollegiate, turning in a competitive showing highlighted by a career round from sophomore Vanessa Nail. The Comets placed three golfers inside the top 35 while gaining valuable tournament reps ahead of next week's conference championship.

Nail Shoots Personal Best, Finishes 31st

Vanessa Nail delivered the team's top performance of the event, finishing 31st overall and posting a career‑best 93 in Round 2. Her steady ball‑striking and improved course management helped her climb the leaderboard on the final day, marking one of the strongest tournament rounds of her collegiate career.

Nail's continued progression this spring has been a major boost for the Comets as they build toward postseason play.

LaNear and Robison Close Out the Cottey Lineup

Sophomore Ellaina LaNear finished 34th, showing resilience across both rounds and continuing to gain confidence in tournament settings. Close behind her was Audrey Robison, who placed 35th and provided another consistent performance for the Comets.

The trio combined to give Cottey a solid foundation in a field featuring several strong regional programs.

Eyes on the American Midwest Conference Championship

With Bent Tree now behind them, the Comets shift their focus to the American Midwest Conference Championship, held next week at Coopers Hawk Golf Course in Melbourne, Arkansas. The event marks the culmination of the spring season and an opportunity for Cottey to showcase the growth and competitive edge they've built throughout the semester.

The team enters championship week with momentum, confidence, and a clear sense of direction.
