The #4 seeded Cottey College Comets hosts the #5 seeded Stephens Stars for an exciting Quarterfinal match on November 8, 2022. The Comets entered the match 20-13 overall and 6-4 in the AMC. The Stars entered the game 16-13 overall and 5-5 in the AMC. The Comets started the night with a recognition of the American Midwest Conference 2022 end-of-the-year awards and All-Conference Team.
The fifth-seeded Stars defeat the fourth-seed Comets by a score of 3-0. The Comets finish their season with a 20-14 record. Stephens improves to 17-13 and advances to play the Columbia/Lyon quarterfinal winner in the AMC Tournament semifinals on Friday at 4:00pm at Columbia College.
Set 1 Cottey - 24 – Stephens 26
Set 1 of the night was back and forth in this conference quarterfinal match until Stephens pulled away on a nine point run with service by Mallory Polk. The Comets fought hard to even the score at 24-24. Stephens was able to score the remaining two points to pull out the Set 1 win 26-24. The Comets had 10 kills on 49 total attacks in Set 1.
Set 2 Cottey - 21 – Stephens 25
The Stephens Stars started Set 2 on a 10-3 run. Cottey never gave up, battling hard and pulling close with a 22-17 score. Ultimately, the Comets were unable to overtake the Stars and Stephens College won Set 2, 25-21.
Set 3 Cottey - 22 – Stephens 25
Set 3 of the night was an exciting match as the Comets took the lead early. The Comets clung to that lead throughout most of the set and the score was 21-17. Stephens surged ahead with a six point run with Isabelle Benson serving. Cottey was unable to answer back and the Stephens Stars won the match 25-22.
